THE IRRESISTABLE PULL OF GRAVITY: EFI’S 4-IN-1 SYSTEM COMMANDS ATTENTION
SAN DIEGO— efi Sports Medicine’s GRAVITYSystem hit the road at IHRSA, and has motored through the fitness industry ever since, spinning heads and gaining fans along the way. The buzz is on. At CRUNCH Mission Viejo, GRAVITYSystem has already proven its worth; the system has been piloting there since September 2002.
Consisting of comprehensive four-way programming—including group strength training, Pilates, personal training and post-rehabilitation—performed on one exercise machine, the GRAVITYSystem is designed to deliver quick, efficient and effective workouts while maximizing floor space, expanding program variety and increasing revenue.
“It has already made a real impact on our club,” says Rob Glick, Regional Group Fitness Director for CRUNCH Mission Viejo and member of efi’s development team for the GRAVITYSystem. “Our club members are so excited. Since we implemented GRAVITY, many members who didn’t have time to strength train before are now making the time and getting great results.”
The GRAVITYSystem’s four programming disciplines are all part of GRAVITY4Programming and each is conducted on the GTS machine. The GTS, a gravity-training device that encourages functional exercise by using an individual’s body weight as resistance, utilizes a cable and pulley system and free-motion glideboard. Able to adjust at nine different levels of resistance, the machine engages all major muscle groups and facilitates more than 250 strength training, stretching and Pilates exercises.
GRAVITY4Programming makes accessible the disciplines of group strength training, Pilates, personal training and post-rehabilitation. Training modules include:
GRAVITYGroup. These lively 30-minute strength classes work all the major muscle groups for atotal body workout. Each participant works on his/her own GTS machine at a chosen level of resistance. The class delivers effective and efficient workouts to club members. GRAVITYGroup strength classes are particularly attractive to exercisers who traditionally focus more on cardio training but want to make time for an efficient strength workout.
GRAVITYPilates. The GTS machine is an excellent alternative to a traditional reformer and makes Pilates more accessible to club members. Traditional and evolved Pilates programs and mat classes can be performed on the GTS using gravity as the resistive force. The advantages of the GTS lie in its ability to overcome a client’s strength and flexibility limitations and eliminate the need to modify the exercises with blocks, barrels or cushions. It provides a feeling of stretch, control and consistency throughout the entire motion of every exercise.
GRAVITYPersonalTraining. Personal training sessions on the GTS allow clubs to increase personal training revenue by allowing one trainer to work with multiple clients in less space and with no waiting. Trainers receive the Complete GTS Library with over 100 exercises and progressions that work every major muscle group. The volume includes information on variation, tempos and programs designed to meet specific client goals.
GRAVITYPost-rehab. Another revenue-generating opportunity for clubs is for those who have finished their designated number of sessions with a physical therapist and need to continue postrehab conditioning. Gravity resistance has proven functional capabilities including a calibrated load and a constant resistive force—beginning weight bearing as low as 6% up to 70% of body weight. efi Sports Medicine has a long history as a leader in the physical therapy and athletic training field and has developed the GRAVITYPost-rehab program in association with industry professionals.
Advanced GRAVITYProgramming is also available, making GRAVITY immediately expandable.
efi Sports Medicine offers the GRAVITYSystem in packages of 7, 11 or 15 GTS units with GRAVITY4Programming. GRAVITYGroup, GRAVITYPilates, GRAVITYPersonalTraining and GRAVITYPost-rehab manuals are filled with exercise sequencing, cueing instructions and more. Two full days of instructor training, as well as marketing materials designed to assist clubs in promoting the program to urrent and potential members is included. Additional training can be purchased.
